I'm Pretending to Work, but Rambling about My Freakisms Instead

Sometimes I really wonder if I'm a socially dysfunctional weirdo. Sometimes I catch myself being really blunt and awkward, and I wonder if it's my panicking or if I actually have problems. In Bio last week, I introduced myself to someone, and Kristen (who was sitting next to me) told me that my "Hi, I'm Emily" sounded angry. I felt perfectly cheerful while saying it, but what if I come off like that a lot?! I promptly leaned over and clarified with a smile that I was in no way angry, and just got a funny look. Oh, dear. What is happening to me?!

My favorite quote from last semester is from when I passed by a girl I knew and in awkward greeting waved my hand in a sort of stiff, quick, up-and-down, hand wave. Who does that?! Most people say "Hey," perhaps accompanied by a casual, natural gesture of greeting or recognition. I never got that chromosome, apparently. I wave like a Nazi. My roommate gave me a hard time about my awkward wave, and I responded with "Sometimes I'm just awkward in public."

Also, I think I talk quieter than I realize. Sometimes I'll be talking to someone and I'll say something offhand (perhaps a clever commentary on something that happened, or a quick "Office" quote) but the person to whom I'm speaking often doesn't understand, but when asked to repeat said quip, it doesn't make sense, and just makes for awkward.

I realize that a lot of people do stupid things, but sometimes I feel like a do/say an unusual amount of awkward. For future reference, please tell me if I'm being a weirdo so that I can immediately start work on fixing my freakisms.

I don't think you're a freak :) The Nazi wave can be a little awkward, but now that you're of said salute, you can not do it next time :) Don't feel like a freak--you're ShamWow to the max! The true title of socially dysfunctional could easily belong to those of the Q&S.

You're WAY less socially dysfunctional than the Q&S club members. Your descriptions make me laugh! I love you for your Shamtastic sense of humor and (sometimes--but not always) quirky ways :).

And I don't get how you could possibly sound "angry" saying, "Hi, I'm Emily." Huh. Go figure.

Oh Emily, don't even worry! I don't think you're a freak! Not one little bit! =)

I can hardly stop chuckling long enough to refute your thoughts!

You're just too funny. And, not a bit freaky. How could a primpling queen be a freak, anyway? Well, in my case, what if someone saw me without my eyebrows on????EEK!

That was just plain hilarious.

You want to know what's socially awkward? How about the group of people Max and I saw fencing -- in costume, and in the middle of the street! -- in our neighborhood on Saturday. Now that's a little bit freaky.

If it's true that you're a freak, then our entire group of choir girls must have been as well. I remember your off-hand Office references and other witticisms fondly and with just a touch of envy-- you're sharp, young lady. And not wierd at all.
