:: Get to work on time every morning. It has become increasingly difficult to resist the lure of jumping back into my bed after my alarm rings, but I'm going to fight it. I only allowed myself one snooze this morning. When time was up, I made myself say a prayer, put on some music, and walk out of my room and into the bathroom. As always, I felt fine once I got going, and I even had time to eat some off-brand Cheerios before leaving for work. (I clocked into work at 7:57! Success!) I won the battle today. Tomorrow, I will conquer again.
:: Maximize my time available for homework. I have a busy couple of weekends and some big tests and assignments coming up, which means that my weeknights must be maximized. My strategy: minimize mealtimes, focus when I do have time for homework, and put up my blinders when passing by my yarn and needles. And I'm also going to work on making myself super-human, thus impervious to fatigue and beyond the need for sleep.
:: Continue the reading-while-walking experiment. This is proving to be very effective, helping me to get through readings for class, notes for tests, and my "for fun" library book. I haven't even hit anything yet while reading and walking! Oh, the possibilities.
:: Remember this quote from Elder Kevin W. Pearson:
"We get what we focus on consistently."
When I first read this, I mistakenly interpreted "consistently" to mean "constantly." However, over my Cheerios this morning, I realized that I don't have to always be studying and thinking about accounting to do well in the class. I don't have to put hours each day into scripture study to understand the gospel. I don't have to knit constantly to gain satisfaction from working on my projects. The challenge in this life is that time is limited, and we don't have unlimited time to dedicate to these worthy pursuits. "Consistently" doesn't relate to the hours we allocate to various activities. It relates to which activities we focus on during the hours we do have each day. If we develop good habits, than we will receive positive things from them. I love this promise!
