anti-style

I make an effort in my daily dressing to be stylish. I love feeling trendy and cool. I really love my style. After a full day of being stylin', however, I like to put on stretchy pants and an ill-fitting, stupid t-shirt. I wear mismatched socks and bulky sweater vests. My family laughs at my lack of after-hours style, but I really like it. John and I had an impromptu kitchen photo shoot to document my newest lounge shirt.

Dancing may not be a crime, but judging by Mom's and Melissa's reactions to this ensemble, perhaps pom-pom socks with cropped pants should be. 

I love my end-of-the-day style. It's comfy and goofy and goes very well with my stupid faces and voices that tend to come out in the evening.

urban adventures

Though this is my second summer working downtown, I haven't seen much of Denver that isn't along my walking route to and from the bus stop. I made some progress toward being an urbanite this week. 

Hannah met me downtown for lunch on Thursday. I usually take my lunch in the break room or at one of the tables outside by the building. It was nice to catch the 16th Street Mall bus and enjoy the weather and people-watching. We saw a group of Amish teenagers on rumspringa! This work week was really busy and felt really long, so it was great to leave the workplace entirely and enjoy time with such a good friend. 

I don't think there were any two more pale-complexioned friends in the city. For real.

The best part about my job is that I work nine hours Monday - Thursday and then only four on Friday. That means that at 11:00 a.m. on Fridays, my weekend has begun and I'm a free woman! I usually head right to the bus stop and then home, but last Friday, I explored.

And where else would I go to explore except the 7-Eleven across the street from my bus stop? I caught this bus all last summer and never realized that Big Gulps were waiting right across from me! It was exciting to cross a street I've never crossed before and look at Denver from an angle I've never seen.

One of my fellow employees recycles her old magazines by leaving them in the break room for break-takers to enjoy. A few weeks ago, I found four whole issues of Cat Fancy, the "World's Most Widely Read Cat Magazine." (I doubt that title has much competition.) Not wanting to be greedy, I took three issues, but went back for the fourth a couple days later. 

Too lazy to take an actual picture, I posed with my cat zines for PhotoBooth. Unfortunately, the mirror image impedes the ability to peruse the headlines. I'm keeping this one in the post because I posed with my best Crazy Cat Lady face and couldn't stand to waste it.

Jessie: The issue above has a feature all about hairless cats! This issue also has some compelling opinions about where cats go when they die. 

Have I mentioned that each issue comes with a centerfold cat poster? I'm shocked that the previous magazine owner left these out for co-workers before pulling those out!

My recent possession of these Cat Fancy issues has inspired me with creepy ways to spread cat fanciness around our home. Last week I replaced all of our school pictures on the fridge with pictures of various creepy cats. Do you have a favorite?

Can you spot the hidden cat? This didn't come with Cat Fancy, but we've been hiding a scary metal cat statue around the house back and forth. I'm pretty proud of this particular place.
